WAD Just received this update from our Board Member in Ukraine, Igor Tymofeyev. It gives us a look inside this war-torn country like so many cannot imagine. Our thoughts and prayers are with Igor, his family, and all the people affected by this terrible war.

My wife and I are in Kyiv. We cannot evacuate. We don’t have a bomb shelter nearby. But I’m a fatalist. The shelling of Kyiv with rockets and artillery is carried out night and day. Only residential areas of Kyiv are subjected to shelling, where there are no and were no military installations! Losses among the civilian population are growing. On March 15 and 16, at night, were continued rocket attacks on Kyiv. There were hits and destruction of three multi-story buildings, the victims are being specified. There are no military installations in these areas and never have been. Digital television does not work for us due to the destruction of the television tower and the hardware building during the rocket attack when all the technical personnel was killed. But high-speed Internet and GSM connections still exist. We also have electricity. Water and gas are also available in the house. Shops in my district are open, of course with half-empty shelves, but food, water, and juices are enough. But almost all pharmacies are closed. A small number of working pharmacies do not have essential medicines, for example, against type 2 diabetes, as well as insulin for type 1 diabetics. There are no heart or high blood pressure drugs. There are no drugs available for thyroid hormone replacement therapy. Deliveries of these important medicines are not yet available. And this means that new deaths of diabetics and elderly people with heart diseases have already begun, as well as people with thyroid diseases or with its absence after operations. But we hope that the supply of medicines will begin soon.
I was describing Kyiv, my city. But in other cities, it is much worse. For example, in Mariupol, as on stand March 15, more than 3,500 civilians have already died under shelling. Today, March 16 a powerful bomb was dropped on the Drama Theater in Mariupol. More than a thousand women and children took refuge in this theater. Most of them died.
Kharkov is constantly shelled and there are also thousands of dead civilians. Chernihiv – constant shelling – hundreds of dead, hundreds of destroyed buildings. March 15 In Chernihiv, when an artillery shell exploded, 10 people were killed, who were standing in line to buy bread.
My daughter-in-law, grandchildren, granddaughters, and two great-grandchildren evacuated with difficulty and are now already in Germany, although they face some everyday difficulties there. But these are trifles. For me, the most important thing is their safety!
