Fingerprinting in Japan For Government Background Checks

We can assist you to take fingerprints for the FBI and other government’s registration.

You are in the right place if you need to submit fingerprints form when you apply government-related employment or a workplace with a strict screening policy.

We are ready to record your fingerprints for FBI registration. In Japan, the police station will never provide this kind of service for ordinary citizens.

FYI:
The processing time can be much quicker through the approved channels for FBI background checks than sending the form to FBI directly.

You can download the application form from the FBI website. You must also submit a set of your fingerprints.

  • Will Japanese Police take our fingerprints?

At the head police station in each prefecture, they will assist with your fingerprinting for the FBI form. However, they will not sign the form for no matter what reasons. Therefore, in the end, the fingerprinting taken by the Japanese police can’t be used for FBI criminal record checks.

  • Is ORI number assigned to your agency?

No. We don’t have an ORI (Originating Agency Identifier) number. As we are supposed to provide fingerprinting service in Japan, an ORI number could not be assigned to a foreign agency.

Below is the NCIC (FBI) reply when asking a question about this.

    Date: Sat, Apr 14, 2018, 02:45

ORI assignments for licensing and employment purposes are processed by State Identification Bureaus (SIBs) based on state statutes authorizing a fingerprint background check.

  • Are you certified by the foreign governments?

No. We provide fingerprinting skills and signatures on official documents as a witness. But we are not directly certified by any of the overseas public offices. Please make sure that the organization asking for your fingerprint is OK with our signature as a private agency.

As we are based in Japan, there is no way we are officially certified by the overseas governments. Usually, licenses and permits fix their jurisdiction. For example, US license will not be valid outside the US soil. Japanese license does not make any sense in the US.

  • Can you provide this service in Osaka as well?

I am sorry. But we currently provide this service only in Tokyo office.

There is no regular staff who can handle the fingerprint recording in Osaka office.

However, there is some time when the person in charge of fingerprinting service happens to be in Osaka office. Please contact us for our availability.

  • Can I just walk-in, or do I need to make an appointment first?

Please make a reservation. We are basically fielding investigators. We are not always at our office.

Also, please be advised that we may have to put off the appointment just in case we get an urgent field operation.

  • Are there any foreign embassies that take our fingerprints?

Based on the information from our clients, that Singaporean embassy and Jamaican embassy are providing fingerprinting service for its citizens.

Hello Japan PI,
I wanted to thank you again for your excellent service in preparing my fingerprints for an FBI background check. I submitted the two fingerprint cards, hard copies, to VetConnex, one of the FBI authorized partners on the official list. (www.vetconnex.com)
Everything worked smoothly and I received my FBI background check. I did have to submit a US mailing address as they will only post to a US address. (I used my mother’s house and had her mail the package to me in Japan.)

Maybe this information could be useful for someone trying to do this with your office in the future.

Thank you again for your help,
Dale
